Scorers for Abercynon : Robbie Savage try, Dean Thomas try, Stuart Davies 2 conversions

This was a game that Rumney started very well with an early try by left wing Martin Cawley. An Abercynon scrum under their own posts was disrupted when Rumney scrum half Keith Lee caught his opposite number in possession and from the ruck lock Mike Peard picked up and fed hooker Paul Harris. Second phase possession led to outside half Gavin Samuel sending out a long pass to Cawley who powered over in the corner for the opening score. Samuels soon extended Rumney's lead with a thirty metre drop goal and when Paul Langley took clean ball at a line out the outside half started a movement which saw quick passes from Nick Stork and Simon Greedy creating a gap for flanker Anthony Moore to cross under the Abercynon posts. A similar movement between Stork and Greedy was carried on by centre Mark Addis and winger Cawley and when Keith Lee received the ball he sold a dummy which drew in the defence and allowed him to put Moore in for his second try. After the interval Abercynon launched a series of powerful attacks and a well worked move saw full back Robbie Savage fly in for the home side's first try. Abercynon No.8 Dean Thomas scored a second from the back of a line out and Stuart Davies converted both tries but the Rumney defence prevented any further scores and the visitors ran out the winners.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "The game turned out to be a very important away win for the squad. We fully deserved the victory due to a splendid first half performance during which we scored all our points. The second half proved to be a different case where we had to defend against a very determined Abercynon side who are desperate for points in the league. The squad deserve to be congratulated for the way they played. Man of the match for Rumney was centre Nick Stork. We now look forward to our game against Pontypool."

Ian Higgins, full back Rumney 1st XV : "It was an interesting game. We got on top in the first half and it looked as if we were going to run away with it but Abercynon came out in the second half and shocked us. We needed this win, the weather was good and we were able to run with the ball. I've played in a variety of positions in the first team now and I'm enjoying it - you live and learn at full back!"
