First Division leaders Aberavon gained their first victory over Rumney at The Talbot Athletic Ground with a powerful forward display. The Wizards dominated the lines out and severly restricted the amount of useful possession that came Rumney's way but nevertheless only led 7 - 0 at half time through a Barry Maddocks try, converted by New Zealander Scott Leighton. The Rumney defence was less effective in the second half with Dafydd Owen and Ricky Price scoring tries for Aberavon but Rumney did respond with a good late try which saw Nick Stork breaking the home side's defensive line and touching down. Gavin Samuels converted but the Wizards' No.8 Richard Morris replied with a final minute try."

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "This game was always going to be a tough encounter, Aberavon on their own patch, top of the table and playing with great confidence. The first half was evenly contested and we trailed by seven points going into the second period. I do think that being unable to play league games over the last couple of weeks made a significant difference to our normal standard of play. The final score does not reflect the game and credit must be given to the squad for the way they defended. Rumney's Man of the Match was Paul Langley. We will bounce back from this and look forward to Dunvant visiting us on Friday night."
