Llandovery, inspired by their outstanding back row, overcame Rumney in appaling conditions at Church Bank. The Drovers lead was only 17 - 11 at half time following a strong Rumney fight back which had been rounded off with a brilliant individual try by full back Christian Wills. Rumney reduced the deficit to one point soon after the break through another spectacular solo effort, this time a try by scrum half Glyn Welsh who chased his own kick through to ground the ball over the Llandovery line. The West Walians however found further reserves and replied with another converted try to seal their victory.
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "Once again a game we should have won. In atrocious conditions the side that made the least mistakes would win the game. We started very slowly and allowed the opposition to dictate. We gradually put our game together with a try just before half time and another straight after. With the score at 17-16 we were putting a lot of pressure on the opposition, then we made a crucial mistake and from this Llandovery scored a try. The boys tried very hard to turn the game around but Llandovery held out until the final whistle. Man of the Match for Rumney was scrum half Glyn Welsh."
