Scorers for Rumney : Michael Peard try, Matthew Silva conversion and penalty

Rumney gave Dunvant plenty to think about through a strong defensive line, a fine front row performance where Gary Power had an excellent game and an outstanding display from Wayne O'Connor. The home side scored first with Fijian aces Tevita and Emori Katalau working centre Will Morgan through for a try under the posts after only three minutes. It was another forty minutes before Dunvant's flanker Stuart Jenkins scored their second try and this was followed by a third from prop Neil Hennessey. Rumney outside half Matthew Silva had kicked two penalties and with the score at 24 - 6 second row Michael Peard drove over for an individual try which Silva converted. The Rumney defence was very sound with Wayne O'Connor putting in decisive tackles to break down the home side's moves but Dunvant outside half Simon Daniel intercepted a pass during a Rumney attack and put wing Darren Berry in for a try. Former Wales Youth fly half Daniel also scored the final try of the match and the conversion brought his total for the game to eighteen points. Rumney kept battling away and ensured that this was a far from easy win for the Broadacre side.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "The game went much as we expected it to. Dunvant played at a very high tempo with every effort being made to keep the ball in hand and play expansive rugby. We defended very well with the score not reflecting the game. The biggest disappointment for me was the penalty count. After analysing the video of the game it proved to be 21 penalties against and 5 for. We have not recorded such a high penalty count all season and we must investigate the reason for this alarming statistic. On a brighter note, loosehead prop Gary Power (former Rumney RFC Youth player) played his first game for the first team this season and shows that he is an exceptional prospect for the future. Wayne O'Connor once again provided us with an immense performance and was voted Rumney RFC Man of the Match. It was also encouraging to see Gareth Thomas (currently a Rumney Youth player) having the opportunity to participate in the game as a blood replacement for scrum half Glyn Welsh. Stuart Macintyre also joined the team for this encounter from our second team squad and showed signs of his ability to play at this level."
