The Wanderers took the honours in this local derby at the Memorial Ground after a strong second half revival. Rumney dominated nearly the whole of the first half and the match seemed to be a one way affair particularly when Lee Meredith touched down following an accurate kick ahead from Simon Greedy. Just before half time however the Wanderers began to put a few moves together and a penalty by full back Pocock started to reduce the visitors' lead. The early part of the second half saw The Wanderers forcing Rumney into countless errors and loss of posession with missed tackles leading to tries by John Jones and prop Mark O'Leary. Though Rumney looked only a shadow of the side that started the game an excellent break by oustanding second row and Captain Mike Peard set off Christian Wills on a run that split the Wanderers defence - Lee Meredith again finished off the fine move with a corner try. Unfortunately Peard twisted his ankle in the movement and had to leave the field and with no specialist second row available to replace him, the Rumney pack was unable to deny the home side forwards posession and The Wanderers made the game safe with a try by flanker Dai Duly.
Dave Escott, Rugby Secretary Rumney RFC : "This was a game we should have had sewn up in the first thirty minutes but we failed to turn pressure into points. To be fair, we suffered a series of injuries and ended up with a number eight at prop, a flanker in the second row and a full back at wing forward."
