Scorers for Rumney : S.Greedy try, M.Silva conversion and penalty
Newbridge opened the scoring with a try by winger Gethin Paterson after five minutes but Rumney replied straight away with scrum half Keith Lee taking a tap penalty and putting Simon Greedy in for the try before the home defence could organise themselves. Matthew Silva's conversion put Rumney ahead but a penalty by outside half Jason Williams and a well worked try by flanker Dean Gibbs gave Newbridge a 15 - 10 lead at half time. The second half saw the home side firmly in control as Newbridge added tries by Lee Mruk, Andrew Price and another from Gethin Paterson.
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "I felt that Rumney's first half performance was very encouraging and territorially we had the upper hand. At 15 - 10 down turning around we were right in the game but due to a sin bin offence at the beginning of the second half, which totally disrupted our pattern of play, we allowed Newbridge the opportunity to exert considerable pressure which resulted in a three try romp in the space of six minutes. After this we were always chasing the game. It goes to show that in the modern game you must keep your discipline. Man of the match for Rumney was second row Paul Langley who worked tirelessly for the whole game."
Dave Escott, Rugby Secretary Rumney RFC : "The two packs of forwards were evenly matched but the Newbridge threequarters were far superior to Rumney's. Scott Eggar had an impressive debut, Keith Lee played well too and Simon Greedy was outstanding with his ball carrying ability in tight situations."
Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC 1st XV Team Manager : "Once again we were unlucky to be 15-10 down at half time but things went from bad to worse with the sin-binning of Keith Lee and Newbridge scored two converted tries when he was off. We had a wonderful first half but the second half was very disappointing. I thought Paul Langley was outstanding but we need a confidence boost to get us out of our current troubles."
