A strong comeback in the second half saw Rumney secure their second win of the season and maintain an unbeaten home record. Outside half Matthew Silva once again played a very big part in the victory with a personal contribution of nineteen points. Abertillery made the better start to the game and a well timed pass from outside half Ross Watts set up centre Regan Berryman for the first try. Berryman was soon in action again when he chased a speculative kick from Watts and was awarded a second try as he grounded the ball over the Rumney line. Silva kept the home side in the game with two penalties and using the wind to great advantage in the second half, drove Abertillery back time and again with fine line kicking. The try of the day was scored by Rumney centre Jason Fofana - Michael Peard secured good lineout ball and following a strong forward drive, scrum half Gareth Downes fed Matthew Silva who in turn cleverly delayed his pass and put Fofana through the Abertillery defence to touch down under the posts. More hard work from the home forwards saw centre Ray Clark attacking the visitors' threequarter line and following a maul, second row Michael Peard appeared in the centre position and broke for the line before giving the scoring pass to flanker Anthony Moore. Silva added a further thirteen points with the boot to keep Rumney firmly in the driving seat but Abertillery came back strongly in the closing minutes and centre Craig Mapp broke through for a good final try.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "This was a much improved performance from last week, the forwards worked very hard to give us a good platform. We are creating good opportunities but we must look to be more clinical and create the end product. I thought that Abertillery defended very well and it took a while for us to break them down. We now move on and look to Tuesday's game against Carmarthen Quins."

Dave Escott, Rugby Secretary Rumney RFC : "A game we made hard work of. I am in no doubt that we were by far the better side. It was particularly rewarding to see youngsters like Anthony Moore, Stuart Coles and Wayne O'Connor, who are all former Rumney Youth players, performing so well and striving to make the positions their own. Matthew Silva certainly had his kicking boots on today. Ray Clark played really well and gave the Abertillery centres a torrid time but the most important aspect of the game was that when we got into scoring positions we succeeded in putting points on the board. Man of the Match, Anthony Moore."

Mike Peard, Captain Rumney 1st XV : "I was very happy with the team's performance today. I felt that the forwards played their part well and answered any questions that have been asked of them. On a personal note, I was pleased to come through my first game back after injury and get one under my belt. It was good to see the forwards and the backs running up the field and interlinking. We shall get better and when we start scoring clinically at every opportunity we will be a very good side."

Matthew Silva, Outside-half Rumney 1st XV : "A key factor was our going behind early on and having to show the character to come back, unlike in our previous games. We started strongly but didn't capitalise on all our chances. It was a good thing that Abertillery scored two early tries and shook us into playing some quality rugby in order to gain a good victory."

Jim O'Brien, Team Manager Rumney 1st XV : "I always felt that we were going to win even when we went 10 - 0 down through two Abertillery tries. We flatter to deceive but it looks as if we are starting to build into a team. We still have a long way to go but it was a pleasing result today, the boys heads never dropped. We need to show more patience and things will happen but at present it is looking very rosy."

Michael Sheehan, Tight-head prop Rumney 1st XV : "It was great to play in a win in my first game for Rumney. I know I can play better but I was glad to get that first game under my belt and I'm looking forward to playing in a great squad of players."
