The game took place on the Cardiff University pitch because Riverside Park was unplayable and within the first nine minutes the Wanderers had built up a shock fourteen points to nil lead. At this stage Rumney settled down and started to control the game and decisive breaks by Nick Stork, Mark Addis and Christian Wills tore holes in the visitors defence. Full back Wills was unstopable and his fine solo try was the outstanding move of the game. He followed it up with another excellent try and Ian McIntyre and Scott Eggar also added top quality scores. Matthew Silva's accurate kicking added a penalty and two conversions and despite their initial setback Rumney finally ran out 27 - 21 winners.
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "The game against the Wanderers was evenly contested. We started the game far too slowly and allowed them to build an early lead but full credit to the squad, they dug in and turned the game around. We fully deserved the win. It was very pleasing to see Nick Stork return to first team duty after a long injury. We must now look forward to our next challenge against Swansea at home in the Principality Cup. Man of the Match for Rumney was Gerald Cox."
Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC 1st Team Manager : "We did exceptionally well to come back from being 14 - 0 down. Rumney showed their determination to win and I really do believe we are starting to make progress. Scott Eggar and Christian Wills were outstanding and after a long break because of injury, Nick Stork returned today and put in a very pleasing performance. My choice as Man of the Match would be prop Gerald Cox."
Scott Eggar, Rumney RFC No.8 : "When the Wanderers went 14 - 0 up I thought we were in for a tuning but we pulled it together and when we were 15 - 14 up at half time I knew we were going to win. It was clear that if we spread the ball or ran at them we would take the game and it was particularly nice to get my first try for the club. I like it at Rumney."
