Scorers for Rumney : David Willey try, Paul Harris try, Simon Greedy try, Christian Wills try, Matthew Silva 2 conversions and 1 drop goal

Rumney were edged out by Llanharan in this exciting eight try thriller at Riverside Park. Despite trailing by twelve points from early in the game, the visitors worked hard to get back on terms and with outside half Mark Roper on top form they succeeded in defeating Rumney for the second time in the season. The home side opened the scoring as the fine handling and constant support of their back line created tries for winger David Willey and hooker Paul Harris. Llanharan finally settled down and Roper created space for centre Nicky Morgan and then full back Wayne Jervis to score. Jervis added a penalty and having already kicked a conversion, Llanharan held the lead until fly half Matthew Silva dropped a goal to level the scores. Rumney's Man of the Match, centre Ian Higgins, created their third try with a dazzling run which resulted in No.8 Simon Greedy bursting over the line to touchdown; Matthew Silva converted. Llanharan hit back with a try by flanker Terry Cross and a conversion and penalty from Jervis. When Roper also scored a try the visitors were eight points clear and finished with a three point lead after Rumney full back Christian Wills finished off an exciting move with a well taken, injury time try.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : " A very lack lustre performance from the squad, we didn't play to our full potential and allowed the opposition to dictate the game. In fairness to Llanharan they took their opportunities very well and deserved to win. On a brighter note centre Ian Higgins played very well and was voted Man of the Match. Although it would have been nice to finish with a win, this season has been very successful with us finishing in fifth position. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the players, the Rugby Committee, physio Sian Knott, Team Manager Jimmy O'brien, our video expert Jeff Thomas and my Assistant Coach Nigel Bezani for their sterling work. We now look forward to next season."

Paul Harris, hooker Rumney RFC 1st XV : "The end of season blues got us but it was a good run out and I'm happy with the fact that I got my first try for Rumney, my first try since I was a youth player I reckon ! It came from a back row move up the left with plenty of interpassing and the last pass came into my hands. It's been good to have a run of regular games."

Christian Wills, full back Rumney RFC 1st XV : "We took it to them in the first half and were well in control but in the second half we sat back and couldn't get much possession when Llanharan came back at us. My last minute try came about when we tied it in and tied it in and then called a long pass. I handed one player off and went through to score."
