After their outstanding win at Pontypool Park on Saturday, Rumney surprisingly lost at Riverside Park to a committed Llandovery side. The Drovers' full back Gary Williams kicked a penalty after two minutes and quickly followed it up with a second score when he burst through three Rumney tacklers to score the opening try of the match. Rumney replied with an excellent threequarter movement started by full back Ian Higgins and it was Higgins who rounded his opposite number to score the try. Powerful Llandovery centre Tracey Lewis broke the home side's defensive line on a number of occasions and from one break Lewis put in winger Archie Mitchell for the visitors' second try. Rumney hit back when outside half Gary Samuel picked up a spilled pass and raced from his own half for the touchdown and went further ahead with a brilliant try which saw scrum half Keith Lee gather from the base of a scrum, shake off a number of tackles and then sell two outrageous dummies before scoring under the posts. Though trailing by one point with a scoreline of 19 - 18 and only minutes to go, Llandovery continued to apply organised pressure and in the seventy seventh minute Gary Williams crossed for his second try and handed his side an important win.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "A very disappointing display from the squad. After a fine performance the previous Saturday against Pontypool the side could not rise to the occasion. Full credit must be given to Llandovery, they played with their heart on their sleeve and fully deserved the victory. The game proved to be a very exciting encounter that had a particularly tense ending. We must learn from this and put in a better display against Treorchy on Saturday. Man of the Match for Rumney was scrum half Keith Lee."
