Rumney's fine run of wins continued with this impressive victory over a strong Tondu side. Outside half Matthew Silva scored a try in the first minute after No.8 Stuart Coles had made a dramatic break from his own 22 and set up a flowing movement which was only stopped on the Tondu line when full back Christian Wills was finally hauled down only for Silva to gather and score. The Rumney stand off was also to contribute a further fifteen points to the game through accurate place kicking of penalties and conversions. Rumney captain Mike Peard had to leave the field with an injury and was replaced by Scott Eggar, who shortly before the interval crossed for a try following good lineout work by the Rumney forwards. It was Tondu in fact who held a narrow half time lead through tries from Jon Rimmer and former Rumney winger Daniel Fofana, both converted by Matthew Pearce but after the interval Rumney reasserted their forward platform and in the space of five minutes centre Mark Addis, powerful flanker Wayne Murphy and full back Christian Wills all crossed for decisive tries. Tondu scored a late try by flanker Marvin Thomas.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "Rumney started the game with every intention of playing good quality rugby and within the space of a few minutes did so, scoring at will. With all due credit to Tondu they were not to be denied and they stormed back into the game. At the interval Tondu had a slender lead but the Rumney side were not to be denied and produced some very enterprising rugby to prevent Tondu from claiming a victory. It was very encouraging to see the strength in depth of the Rumney squad with replacement players staking their claim for first team positions. We now target our next game away at Blackwood on Friday night to continue our recent success. Man of the Match for Rumney was Anthony Moore."
