Scorers for Rumney : Martin Cawley try, Jason Fofana try, Matthew Silva penalty
Rumney's steady climb up the Division One table continued with a hard fought victory at Abertillery Park, Matthew Silva's late penalty snatching the points for the visitors. Abertillery conceded a try in the fourth minute when Rumney flanker Anthony Moore collected a loose kick and drove powerfully into the home forwards, from the resulting maul scrum half Keith Lee passed to Scott Eggar who drove further into the Abertillery half and set up the ball again. Lee gathered and with a devestating blind side break in which he twice dummied past Abertillery defenders, connected with lock Paul Langley who in turn supplied winger Martin Cawley with the scoring pass. Abertillery fought back and two Ross Watts penalties gave them a slender lead until Rumney right wing Jason Fofana followed up his own grubber kick to touch down for a try which gave his side a half time lead of 6 - 10. Two more Watts penalties put Abertillery back in the lead but an off side infringement in the final minutes allowed Matthew Silva to kick the winning points for Rumney.
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "The game was played in dreadful conditions, but to be fair to both sides they tried to play rugby. I thought that the score in the end was fully justified considering we scored two tries to Abertillery's none. We turned around at half time with a narrow lead but we took our foot off the pedal and allowed the opposition to come back into the game. I was very pleased with our defensive performance but we gave far too many penalties away, I am sure we shall learn from this and move forward with confidence. The Man of the match award was won by scrum half Keith Lee."
