Scorers for Rumney : Stuart McIntyre 2 tries, Martin Cawley try, Gareth Spencer try, Gavin Samuel 2 tries and 2 conversions and 1 penalty
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV :"A fine display from two sides intent on playing open rugby. We were by far the better team and fully deserved to round off the season with another cup win. I thought that the Rumney forwards gave a fine display with flanker Robert Randall having a great game. Gavin Samuel controlled the game well at outside half and released our impressive back line very well. I am led to believe that two of the squad are leaving the area, Rob Randall and Gareth Spencer, I hope they have enjoyed their time with us and wish them every success in their future careers. Rumney R.F.C.would like to extend a big thank you and hope if they should return they will play for the club again."
Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "Considering we lost our scrum half after fifteen minutes, this was an impressive win and it was down to a good all round performance, but Llanharan couldn't cope with our pace in the backs. A wonderful end to the season, winning both the Mallett and East District 2nd XV cups."
Viv Morris, Rumney RFC : "We used our pace behind very well but in the second half we sat on our lead and allowed Llanharan back into the game. Rumney did however come back very strongly towards the end and that was more or less it !"

Rumney Mallett Cup Team V Fairwater : 15.S.McIntyre 14.I.McIntyre 13.D.Willey 12.A.Jones 11.R.Walsh 10.G.Samuel 9.G.Thomas 1.W.Collier 2.N.Ritchie 3.J.Harris 4.M.Kelly 5.J.Walsh 6.G.Spencer 7.N.Coles (Capt.) 8.R.Randall Subs : M.Foley M.Gee G.Power W.Yelland M.Feneck M.Kearle C.Hill

Scorers for Rumney : Ian McIntyre 2 tries, Gareth Spencer try, Wayne Yelland try, Gavin Samuel 3 conversions
Peter Coles, Coach Rumney Athletic : "Well done to the twenty two players for being the first Rumney Second Team to win the Mallet Cup. The team was a level above Fairwater and our defence was outstanding. This cup win is due to the structure put in place by the Rugby Section of Rumney RFC and I would like to thank Andy Jones (Chairman), Shaun Lee (First Team Coach) and Jim O'Brien (First Team Manager) for their help this season. Man of the Match Gareth Spencer."
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "The Athletic squad fully deserved this victory. They tried at every opportunity to play open, expansive rugby. The biggest difference between the sides was the speed and skill we had in the backs. Our forwards had to work very hard against a much bigger and experienced pack, and eventually were able to get the better of them. It was great to see youth players Gareth Thomas and Mike Feneck make the step up and look totally at ease in such a high profile game. Although Ian McIintyre was awarded the Man of the Match award and should be congratulated, flanker Gareth Spencer must have been very close to the award with a super display. Coaches Peter Coles and Mike Maughan have had a fine season, with the East District 2nd XV Cup Final to come."
Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "Not a classic but every time we ran the ball we looked dangerous. Everyone did their bit and it was an excellent performance. Fairwater's opening try was even scored by an ex-Rumney Youth and senior player, Phil Ford ! The official Man of the Match was Rumney wing Ian McIntyre and Gareth Spencer was voted equal Man of the Match."
Ian Riby, Rumney RFC : "A very good victory. Rumney had youth and pace in the backs and the difference showed. Our defence was superb throughout, Fairwater had a big heavy, pack and we hit them down every time, some of the tackles were tremendous. Gareth Thomas and Gareth Spencer had smashing games."

Rumney Squad V Welsh Academicals : M.Kearle S.McIntyre A.Jones G.Samuel G.Thomas R.Walsh I.McIntyre D.Clarkson M.Foley M.Sheehan M.Gee G.Power J.Harris G.Harrington M.Kelly J.Walsh N.Coles S.Greedy R.Randall G.Spencer W.Yelland M.Feneck N.Ritchie J.Abell
Scorers for Rumney : I.McIntyre 3 tries, J.Harris try, M.Kelly try, N.Coles try, S.McIntyre 5 conversions
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "This game to celebrate the club's 50th anniversary was a fine display of running rugby. The game was played in a great spirit and refereed very well by Gareth Simmons which enabled both sides to play expansive rugby. The score of 40 ponts each indicates the end to end rugby which was on display. Winger Ian McItyre once again proved why he has broken into the first team squad with a very impressive performance but he was upstaged by a very impressive performance from tighthead prop Mike Sheehan who was awarded Man of the Match. We used a number of players who will challenge for a first team position next season as it gave them the opportunity to play against quality players. I would like to thank the committee and players from the Welsh Academicals for a very entertaining evening."
Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC 1st XV Team Manager : "An excellent game played in a superb spirit. It was a wonderful game of rugby to watch."

Scorers for Rumney : Matthew Kearle try, Ian McIntyre try, Robert Walsh try, Neil Coles try, Stuart McIntyre conversion
Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "An excellent victory by a young Rumney side and we deserved to win. David Willey in the centre was magic on the night and Ian McIntyre's try was a wonderful solo effort, you wouldn't see a better one scored in Wales this year."
Scorers for Rumney : I.McIntyre 3 tries, N.Coles 2 tries, S.McIntyre try, G.Spencer try, J.Walsh try, G.Samuels 4 conversions
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "Although I was very disappointed that our first team fixture against Llandovery could not be played, it gave me the opportunity to watch the Athletic team. I was very impressed with the performance especially in the second half when we started to put a bit of width on the game. The team played some excellent rugby and the tries scored were very impressive. The pack battled for the entire game and the interplay between them and the backs proved to be far too strong for a gallant Bedwas team. There was a lot of talent on display and I am sure that it will not be long before a number of these players make the first team squad."
Peter Coles, Coach Rumney RFC : "At first Bedwas seemed to have a stranglehold over us in the set pieces and were slowing the game down but then the Rumney side, led by Neil Coles, decided to up the tempo and in the last twenty minutes we scored sixty percent of the points. Rugby is the thinking man's game. Man of the Match James Walsh."

Scorers for Fox Valley : George Springer try, Mike Riley penalty
Chuck Riley, Fox Valley RFC : "One of the things we had hoped for was a little friendlier weather and this was our first touch of grass this year - the US season starts in a couple of weeks time ! It was a privilege to play here and we enjoyed the game. Rumney showed a depth of skill and understanding which comes from years of playing but our high schools are now playing rugby and its slowly coming good for us."
Mike Riley, Captain Fox Valley RFC : "It was a great learning experience, we knew what was coming and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was a thrill to be the first person from Fox Valley to score points overseas. In the US players don't support as well as the Welsh did today. It was a matter of fitness but even the premier guys in the States don't support like that."
George Springer, Fox Valley RFC : "Awesome, it was a great experience playing against Rumney, I never thought I'd be coming here. I felt good scoring Fox Valley's first overseas try - it was a dramatic try with excellent support for me on both sides. We're looking forward to playing Gorseinon on Wednesday evening, it should be cool !"
Mike Barker, Rumney RFC : "The game was played in the right spirit. We tried to play too much elaborate rugby and Fox Valley certainly had hard hitting tacklers. Man of few words, Mark Oliver led the side well today and it was good to see Paul McCarthy back. On the whole a good game and a satisfying result."
Paul Morgan, Rumney RFC : "I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of Fox Valley's rugby. I experienced US club rugby twenty years ago and Fox Valley showed how well they are now organised with high skill levels. Some of the Rumney lads will remember some very hard hits !"
Scorers for Rumney : D.Willey try, C.Hill try, G.Harrington try, G.Spencer try, R.Randall try, W.Murphy 3 tries, G.Thomas try and 2 conversions
UWIC 2nd XV V RUMNEY ATHLETIC
UWIC, Cyncoed Road, Cardiff
Saturday 10th February 2001, K.O. 2.30 pm
UWIC 2nd XV 11 Rumney Athletic 5
Paul Whitcombe, Rumney RFC : "Rumney played some outstanding rugby in the first half and turned around with a big lead but we went off the boil after the interval and with Tondu playing a mauling kind of game it took us a long time to overcome it and we finally managed to score in the last few minutes. Everybody played well in the first half and David Willey and Neil Coles had particularly good games."
Dave Escott, Rugby Secretary Rumney RFC : "It was an exciting match full of good rugby. Rumney were on top, though Bettws never gave up and in a fifteen to twenty minute period early in the second half we made a number of changes and went on to totally dominate the game."
Scorers for Rumney : Jason Fofana try, Stuart McIntyre try, Ian McIntyre try, Lee Meredith try, Gavin Samuel 4 conversions
Peter Coles, Coach Rumney RFC : "A committed performance by a disjointed Athletic team which dug in and played some good rugby. Ian Higgins had a particularly good game and so did Jason Fofana who is regaining his form ready to return to the 1st XV. Ian McIntyre and Lee Meredith also showed that they are knocking on the door of the 1st XV. Every player was worthy of the Man of the Match award today."

Scorers for Rumney : Jason Fofana try, Gavin Samuel 2 penalties and 1 drop goal
Peter Coles, Coach Rumney RFC : "A well organised Llanharan side tackled fiercely for the full eighty minutes and restricted us to scoring only the one try. Our pack was very committed, particularly in the second half and Jason Fofana made a try out of nothing when he kicked ahead and controlled the ball well to score. Full credit to Llanharan for giving us the hardest home game of the season. Man of the Match, James Walsh."
Right : Jason Fofana
Stuart Coles, Rumney RFC : "This was a good win against a determined Llanharan side who tackled very effectively. We struggled with our possession in the set pieces but played well nevertheless."
Anthony Davies, Rumney RFC : "Probably one of the best Second XV games of the season. Llanharan were really strong. the set pieces were well contested and they gave us a lot of trouble, in fact they pushed us all the way."

Scorers for Rumney : M.Gee try, R.Walsh try, A.Jones try, G.Samuel 1 drop goal and 2 conversions and 1 penalty
Peter Coles, Coach Rumney RFC : "This was a match in which both sides wanted to play rugby. Rumney built up a good lead but UWIC came back strongly and the game was evenly balanced at 18 all. Rumney then dug in against the elements and ran out worthy winners. The game was well refereed by David Price who currently seems to be a WRU outcast !"
Scorers for Rumney : Anthony Jones try, Craig Hill try, Michael Collins 3 penalties and 1 conversion
Ian Riby, Rumney RFC : "It was a good game but Abercynon felt they had a better chance by opting for passive scrums and that really played into Rumney's hands."

Scorers for Rumney : M.Collins try and 2 conversions and 1 penalty, D.Willey try, M.Yellen try, M.Gauntlet try

Scorers for Rumney : Penalty try, G.Samuel conversion and 3 penalties
Peter Coles, Coach Rumney RFC : "Rumney's second team defeated Llanrumney with a display which was full of character. We refused to be intimidated by the opposition's lack of discipline and responded with a completely controlled performance to beat Llanrumney in a decisive manner. Man of the Match, Stuart McIntyre."

Scorers for Rumney : David Willey 3 tries, David Carlson 2 tries, Stuart McIntyre try, Robin Ostler try, Gavin samuel try and 6 conversions
Peter Coles, Coach Rumney RFC : "A disappointing game, we expected Llantrisant to offer stronger opposition. On a very muddy pitch first team hopefuls Dave Willey, Neil Coles and Robin Ostler showed up very well. A good all round performance. Man of the Match David Willey."
Scorer for Rumney : R.Ostler try
Peter Coles, Coach Rumney RFC : "A disjointed Rumney side gave 100% effort but erratic handling cost us a victory. Mark Cann was dynamic and hugely committed - if the whole of Rumney can be as committed as Mark Cann we won't lose many games !"

Peter Coles, Coach Rumney RFC : "We played some good stuff and strong footballing skills in wet conditions led to us scoring twelve tries. Matthew Kearle and Anthony Davies had very good games and the whole back row unit showed up well. It was also good to see Simon Grainger back playing for us. Man of the Match - Stuart Coles."
Scorers for Rumney : J.Popple try, S.Coles try, A.Jones try, C.Ford 2 conversions
