Glyncoch 34   Rumney 3rd XV 14

Scorers for Rumney : D.Evans try, M.Milsom try, J.Wheeler 2 conversions

Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "We blasted Glyncoch off the park in the scrums but in the loose they were younger and fitter and even though we were leading at the start of the second half we fell away and lost the game. Man of the Match, Michael Feneck."

RUMNEY 3rd XV  V  BLAENGARW
Riverside Park, Rumney
Saturday 10th March 2001, K.O. 2.30 pm

Rumney 3rd XV 12   Blaengarw 29

Scorers for Rumney : Mark Oliver try, Matthew Milsom try, Jason Wheeler conversion

Sean Hill, Rumney RFC : "Blaengarw were a good outfit and they played very well. They had impressive backs who lived on our mistakes. Rumney stuck at it and never gave up but we could't catch up. From a two metre drive all the Rumney forwards powered over the line and once the referee had had a good look at it he awarded Mark Oliver the try. Matthew's try was a straight forward pop pass which put him in under the posts from fifteen metres out."

Rumney 3rd XV 12    Cardiff Saracens 5

Scorers for Rumney : Graham Burke try, Shaun Hill try, Lee Brincat conversion

Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "A typical early kick off game with a Rumney team made up from 2nd XV, 3rd XV and Youth team players. There was little sense or reason in some of the ploys used but it was a nice pipe opener for the Wales v England International."

GLAMORGAN WANDERERS 3rd XV V RUMNEY 3rd XV

The Memorial Ground, Ely, Cardiff
Saturday 23rd December 2000, K.O. 2.30 pm

Glamorgan Wanderers 3rd XV 21  Rumney 3rd XV 0

Mike Barker, Rumney RFC : "The Wanderers were younger and fitter and we suffered two serious injuries in the first ten minutes. We never really came back from that and although we applied a lot of pressure we didn't get anywhere and allowed them to score two breakaway tries. It was our first loss in over eighty games."

WHITEHEADS 2nd XV  V  RUMNEY 3rd XV
Whiteheads RFC, Newport
Saturday 2nd December 2000, K.O. 2.30 pm

Whiteheads 2nd XV 10   Rumney 3rd XV 34

Mark Oliver, Coach Rumney RFC : "The whole team is playing very well and today we had to thank Rumney Youth for supplying our two props Wayne Feneck and Kevin Evans. The pack performed very well once they stopped giving cheek to the referee. Neil Hedges played brilliantly when he came on and his tackling was second to none. Men of the Match, Kevin Evans and Wayne Feneck."

DINAS POWYS 2nd XV  V  RUMNEY 3rd XV

Scorers for Rumney : Alan Paynter try, Matthew Williams try, Jason Wheeler 1 penalty and 2 conversions

Mark Oliver, Rumney RFC : "A frustrating game for Rumney because we won so much ball but threw out so many loose passes. We should have won by forty points so it was necessary for coach Mark Oliver to speak firmly to the team at half time ! Our first try came when Dai Evans charged down a ball and Alan Paynter was first there to score and the second followed a crash ball move by Anthony Jones which put Matthew Williams inside for the try. Man of the Match : Keith Franklin."

RUMNEY 3rd XV  V  UWIC XV
Riverside Park, Rumney
Saturday 18th November 2000, K.O. 1.30 pm

Rumney 3rd XV 26   UWIC XV 20

Scorers for Rumney : Edwin Ford try, Sean Hill try, Dave Walker try, Chris Adams try, Jason Wheeler 3 conversions

Sean Hill, Rumney RFC : "It was a hard game, especially when UWIC went 10-0 up in the first ten minutes, but then we started to play and the tries came from Edwin Ford, Dai Walker and Chris Adams and I got one myself. The Man of the Match was Dave Aussie Walker who had to go off with a cut head and was faced with a four hour wait at the hospital to have five stiches put in the wound - somehow the doc mistakenly got the impression that Dave had to catch a plane to Australia at eight o'clock so he was stitched up immediately !"

Dave Aussie Walker, Rumney RFC : "I had a great time, it was good fun."

LLANISHEN 2nd XV  V  RUMNEY 3rd XV

Scorers for Rumney : Mike Brown 2 tries, Shaun Hill try, Jason Wheeler try, Phil Ford 2 conversions and 1 penalty

Edwin Ford, Rumney RFC : "The best game we have played all season. Spike Brown had two five yard tries and after four games has equalled his personal best total of tries in a season - four tries in his first four games! We kept our discipline throughout a very hard game. Dai Williams was impressive when he came on."

RUMNEY 3rd XV  V  LLANDAFF NORTH 2nd XV

Rumney 3rd XV 30   Llandaff North 2nd XV 3

Scorers for Rumney : M.Perks try, A.Jones 3 tries, C.Walsh try, M.Deakin penalty, G.Kemble conversion

Mike Barker, Rumney RFC : "A very scrappy game but we were never in danger and were always going to win. Keith Franklin tried hard at scrum half but because of injury had to be replaced by Martin Perks, whose reverse pass is second to none and is based on Rob Howley's. Martin also scored a try when Mike Brown generously gave him the scoring pass. Next Saturday we play Llanishen, who are also unbeaten and we shall have to improve on today's performance to win that game. Man of the Match, David Evans."

Adam Elford, Rumney RFC : "It was a scrappy game and although Rumney led 23 - 0 at half time it wasn't until we had the wind on our backs in the second half that we dominated the opposition and took them apart with running rugby. John Popple and Mike Brown had excellent games."

TONDU 3rd XV  V  RUMNEY 3rd XV
Pandy Park, Tondu
Saturday 30th September 2000, K.O. 3.00pm

Scorers for Rumney : E.Ford 4 tries, D.Willey 3 tries, A.Jones 2 tries, J.Norman try, S.Davies try, M.Williams 6 conversions

Mike Barker, Rumney RFC : "A very entertaining game of flowing, even exhibition style rugby at times. Edwin Ford scored four tries, Dave Willey got two and both players had excellent games. The Rumney pack was far too big and strong for Tondu who opted for passive scrums."

Man of the Match : Jeff Norman

Jeff Norman, Captain Rumney 3rd XV : "A typical first game of the season but Dinas Powys were worthy opponents and they must be very disappointed. It was the spirit of the Rumney boys that won us the game, they were superb. Man of the Match - Wayne Collier."

Martin Perks, Rumney RFC : "Wayne Collier held them all together with his experience. Not only is he clever but he can add up the score, the man is the Mr.Versatile of Rumney RFC 3rd XV."
