Scorers for Rumney : Martin Cawley try, Matthew Silva conversion and drop goal
Rumney went down to Bedwas at the Bridge Field in this tense and hard fought game. Bedwas weathered strong early pressure to drive upfield where outside half Gavin Samuel gave them the lead in the fifth minute with a penalty goal. Rumney fly half Matthew Silva was in fine kicking form and positioned his forwards in good attacking situations and it was Silva who cleverly set up the threequarter move which saw centre David Willey slice through the home side's defence to feed hooker Paul Harris who in turn supplied wing Martin Cawley with a try scoring pass. Silva converted from the touchline and soon afterwards the dynamic fly half scored a snap drop goal to put the visitors in the driving seat with a seven points lead. Just before half time Samuel landed a second penalty and early in the second half Bedwas went into the lead when Rumney conceded possession at the tail of a line out and a midfield break by centre Andrew Harrison led to wing John Wareham crossing in the corner. Two minutes later Samuel kicked another penalty and followed it with a long drop goal which increased Bedwas' lead to seven points, a lead which they held onto until the final whistle despite a final Rumney onslaught."
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "A much improved performance from the squad. The first half of the game was controlled and marshalled by outside half Matthew Silva. We played some good rugby in this period and fully deserved our lead going into the second half. In high intensity games like this it only takes one indiscretion to allow the opposition the lifeline to get back into the game. We gave them this chance and they capitalised upon it. We move onto our home game with Whitland on Saturday. Man of the Match for Rumney, Matthew Silva."
