Scorers for Rumney : Christian Wills try, Ian McIntyre try, Gerald Cox try, Michael Peard try, Matthew Silva 3 penalties and 2 conversions
Rumney gained their first league win at Dunvant and scored four good tries in the process, deservedly collecting the important points which take them into mid table. The first try was a characteristically blockbusting effort from full back Christian Wills who left four defenders on the floor before powering over the line to score. The visitors' second try came from a line out where Michael Peard took clean possession and outside half Matthew Silva sent out a long pass to centre David Willey who, in turn, set free left wing Ian McIntyre to sprint twenty metres to score. Peard was also instrumental in setting up his side's third try with more good possession at the front of the line which allowed the forwards to drive fifteen metres and saw powerful prop Gerald Cox spin over the line and score. A Silva penalty just before half time gave Rumney a 9 - 20 interval lead.
The second half saw Dunvant adopting a running approach and full back Phil Sparrow scored a try and converted it. Matthew Silva kicked his second penalty but the home side retaliated with a breakaway try by wing Anthony Rees, only for Silva to kick his third penalty. Dunvant hit back again with a try by flanker Matthew Powell and Sparrow's conversion put his side into the lead. In a thrilling finish scrum half Andrew Boyd and No.8 Andrew Grabham combined to create a break which took play to the Dunvant line, Nick Stork was held up inches short and from the next phase big lock Peard sprinted through the opposition's defence for the decisive try. Silva, who had had an excellent game with the boot, added the conversion points to seal an significant away victory.
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "A game which we dominated for long periods. We played some very attractive rugby and fully deserved our win. Turning around at half time with a good lead, we fell into the trap of trying to force passes rather than to play basic rugby. We alliowed Dunvant an opportunity to come back into the game, which they took with open arms and full credit to them for doing so. It is always good to win away from home and this now gives us the double over Dunvant. A few players pushed for the Rumney Man of the Match award, the eventual recipient being Andrew Grabham."

Colin Willis, Team Manager Rumney RFC 1st XV : "A very good victory but we were guilty of letting Dunvant back into the game at times. We frequently broke into their territory and were very positive in our play but we did make some mistakes which allowed them to stay in contention. In fact there were a lot of positives - there was a good old tussle in the front row, Paul Langley dominated the lines out, Andrew Grabham worked like a Trojan and Wayne O'Connor gave 100% in effort and workrate. A strong team effort all round."
Gareth Cleaver, scrum half Rumney RFC 1st XV : "It was a fast game which, for the most part, we comfortably dominated. We controlled things up front but then let them back into the game. It should really have been all over by half time !"
Andrew Boyd,
scrum half Rumney RFC 1st XV : "It was end to end stuff
and though I guess we made a lot of mistakes, it was a good win
away from home and we finished on the right end of the scoreline.
Andrew Grabham played well at the back of the scrum and popped
the ball up to me to make a break or two. I enjoyed it."
