This was Rumney's most controlled performance of the 2001-2002 season and saw them achieve their highest score of the season with eight well constructed tries. The pack enjoyed the firm ground and their extra speed around the field and greater strength in the mauls, meant that the backs received plenty of good possession.

The first try came from consistent pressure inside the Llanharan twenty two and a long pass from flanker Neil Coles found team captain Andrew Grabham who fed full back Christian Wills with the scoring pass. Grabham was also involved in the second try, his break from the back of a scrum starting the three quarter movement which saw centre David Willey sprint forty metres and round the fullback to touchdown. Rumney's third try came from another scrum and an excellent break by scrum half Gareth Cleaver led to a score by winger Stuart McIntyre. This was followed by a movement which started under the visitors' posts but saw fine runs by Grabham and Lotu Ngungutau set wing Nick Wakley off on a successful kick and chase which resulted in him scoring under the Llanharan posts.

After the interval Rumney were quickly in attacking mood again and a fine Andrew Grabham dummy saw him sprinting twenty five metres from the base of a scrum to score the opening try of the second period. The visitors sixth try came from possession gained by hooker Colin O'Donoghue and good backing up by Coles sent flanker Pauli Masoe off on an unstoppable run to the goal line. Rumney's domination of the scrums created room for outside half Tommy Price to cross for a try and when the forwards pushed the Llanharan pack off their own put in, centre Nick Stork set up a midfield maul from which dynamic prop Ngungutau ripped the ball and sprinted away to touchdown under the posts for his side's eighth try of the game. Price converted to give Rumney one of their most impressive wins of the season.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "As the score would suggest, the squad, led by Andrew Grabham, totally outplayed Llanharan. I was very pleased with the way the forwards and backs combined to create great flowing rugby. In fairness to Llanharan they never gave up trying but could not cope with the sustained pressure exerted on them. I was very pleased that squad players Colin O'Donoghue, Neil Coles, Grant Harrington and Gary Cleaver were given their opportunity in the starting line-up, played a very important role in this victory and should be congratulated. There were a number of candidates for Man of the Match award, the eventual winner being prop Lotu Ngungutau."
