Scorers for Rumney : David Willey try, Mark Armstrong penalty

Scorers for Blackwood : Matthew Tucker try, Ben Jones try, Lee Humphries try, Martin Jones 2 conversions and 2 penalties

Blackwood's win over Rumney at Riverside park gave them their sixth consecutive victory of the season. Rumney started well with a series of early attacks which saw the home side's forwards initially dominating the visitors' heavy pack but this pressure only led to a single Matthew Armstrong penalty. Blackwood struck back with a score by lock Matthew Tucker who peeled off from the tail of a lineout and crossed for a try. Rumney's reply came from the immediate restart with a flowing movement started by Colin O'Donoghue which saw centre Ian Higgins draw in three defenders before O'Donoghue again gathered and fed full back Martin Cawley. Cawley drew in the remaing defenders before flicking an overhead pass to right wing David Willey to score the try. Good possession in the lineout again led to a second Blackwood try when flanker Ben Jones switched around the front of the line to score in the corner with fly half Martin Jones kicking his second conversion and soon adding two penalties. The visitors also created the final score of the game when a looping move put centre Lee Humphries in for a corner try.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "A very poor performance from the squad. Although Blackwood are having a very good season we should have secured a victory on our own patch. We dominated for long periods of the game but failed to turn this into points. Man of the Match for Rumney, Neil Coles.
