Rumney soaked up heavy pressure for the first half hour of this game but two tries within a minute from Tondu's Matthew Tatchell and Richard Dyke set the visitors on their way and they extended their lead with a try either side of the interval from influential scrum half Brendan Roach. Rumney's first try came in the second half when Gareth Cleaver took a quick tapped penalty and fed outside half Matthew Silva whose well timed pass set up dynamic prop Lotu Ngungutau to charge over the Tondu line. Visiting flanker Karl Hocking capped a fine performance with a try before Ngungutau surprised everyone with a snap throw in to hooker Colin O'Donoghue who dashed over the Tondu line to touchdown. Rumney cut the deficit even further with the oustanding move of the game - from a scrum in their own twenty two Cleaver fed skipper Nick Stork who worked a clever move with fellow centre Ian Higgins which resulted in Stork putting full back Christian Wills clear through the Tondu defence. Shaking off tacklers with his strong running the full back sprinted the length of the pitch to score a brilliant try. Rumney right wing Martin Cawley added a further try when he cut through the tiring visitors' pack to cross the line leaving Nick Stork to kick the conversion before the final whistle blew.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "The side today was well beaten by a very good Tondu team. We were not allowed to set up any platform on which to build momentum and therefore we ended up on the back foot defending for long periods of the game. We will sit down and analyse the game and learn from it and I am sure we will become a better side for it. We now move on to our game with Merthyr."

Adrian Hill, Rumney RFC : "Rumney didn't create the chances we needed to in the first half, we were dropping the ball, holding back in the tackles and panicking at times. The Tondu flanker Karl Hocking was everywhere, creating moves and supporting other players and we had trouble containing him. The game was already lost by the time Rumney started scoring any tries but I did enjoy Christian Wills' brilliant solo effort which was the highlight of the match."
