Scorers for Rumney : Paul Langley 2 tries, Neil Coles try, David Willey try, Neil Hennessy try, Matthew Silva 1conversion and 3 penalties and 1 drop goal
Scorer for Whitland : Daniel Griffiths try and conversion and 2 penalties
Rumney got back on the winning trail with a comprehensive defeat of Division One newcomers Whitland at Riverside Park but it was the visitors who scored the first try when fly half Daniel Griffiths cut through a gap in the defence to complete a good solo effort. Griffiths converted his try and soon added a penalty but Rumney outside half Matthew Silva was again on top form with his kicking and put over a penalty having already opened the scoring with an earlier place kick. It was a long pass from Silva which led to lock Paul Langley flying over in the right wing position to claim Rumney's first try and shortly afterwards a fine three quarter movement saw centre David Willey draw in the Whitland defence before slipping another try scoring pass to flanker Neil Coles who was racing up in close support. Silva added a third penalty and increased the home side's lead with a neat drop goal. The first try of the second half again went to Paul Langley who had been impeded in a line out and from the subsequent penalty tapped the ball and crashed over to score. A switch move in the centre saw skipper Nick Stork send co-centre David Willey slicing through the Whitland defence for a touchdown and Rumney's fifth try was scored by Neil Hennessy when he took another surprise tap penalty to seal a deserved victory.
Shaun Lee,
Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "A very encouraging performance from the squad,
they played with a real sense of purpose and created many try
scoring opportunities. We must build upon this and play our rugby
with confidence and self belief. We have a very good young squad
whom I am sure will go from strength to strength. Man of the Match
for Rumney was Paul Langley."

Paul Langley, Second Row Rumney RFC 1st XV : "It was definitely a real change to play with confidence and win the game. I found it easy to play well today and with a bit of luck might have scored a third try. My first try came from a line out, I managed to win the ball and out it went through phases into the middle of the park and then it came back and we scored in the corner. The second try was from a tapped penalty, I took the kick and there was no one there to stop me. The backs played brilliantly today, Matthew Silva was superb, when you're struggling he's got that ability to put the ball sixty yards down the field !"
Paul Langley

Matthew Silva, Outside Half Rumney RFC 1st XV : "We improved on Tuesday against Bedwas and even though we won today we still made a lot of mistakes in crucial areas. Against the top sides in the division this could be very detrimental to us but when we eliminate those mistakes I think we can compete with the best sides in the league. On a positive note, our game has generally improved tenfold though I don't think we should get carried away with the win today since Whitland are still finding their feet in the Division One."
Matthew Silva
Andrew Grabham, No.8 Rumney RFC 1st XV : "This was a much
better performance. We didn't turn the ball over half as much
when we were in attacking positions so consequently we scored
more points. It was enjoyable because the boys stuck to the task."
