Rumney and Whitland shared the points in this hard fought tussle at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn where the elements prevented open rugby and neither side managed to decisively breach the opposite defence. Home centre Mike Buckingham came close to a try but was brought down a metre from the line by an all encompassing tackle by Shane Macintosh and at the other end of the field Rumney were denied a try when the referee was unable to see if the visiting forwards had grounded the ball over the goal line. The strong wind played havoc with the place kickers and no goal attempts were successful, in fact the weather conditions were the major reason why the sides tended to cancel out each others efforts and the resulting draw was not to be unexpected.
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "A game which was dominated by adverse weather conditions. Both sides had to scrap it out to try and gain any territorial advantage. The teams battled for the full eighty minutes but neither side could gain that all important score. The result was a fair reflection because of the way both sides negated each other with very committed defensive platforms. Man of the Match for Rumney was Gavin Lucas."
