Jim O'Brien, Team Manager Rumney Athletic : "A superb all round performance by the team, each individual who played stood up and was counted today. Llanharan beat us twice earlier in the season and it only shows how we have improved, a lot of credit must go to coaches Emyr Griffith and Larry Feneck. The team was a credit to Rumney Rugby Football Club, Dan Clements became the side's top try scorer for the season with his twentieth try and the Man of the Match was Neal Ritchie."

Lee Brincat, prop Rumney Athletic : "This was sweet revenge for the earlier defeats in the season and the final restored a bit of pride and respect after losing in the Mallett Cup. It was a good performance from the pack, the front row was outstanding and everyone played well. Chris Jones and Shaun Davies had excellent games and full back Phil Carlton played brilliantly."

Left : Lee Brincat

Neal Ritchie, hooker Rumney Athletic, Man of the Match : "A good all round display by our boys which rounded off an excellent second half of the season and made up for our poor display against Glamorgan Wanderers in the Mallett Cup. Phil Carlton was outstanding, James Harris made some superb tackles and the pack put in a brilliant performance, the game was won in the front five."

Jim O'Brien, Team Manager Rumney Athletic : "An excellent performance in the first half but we fell away a bit in the second half. Once we were counterattacking it was all over but outside half Phil Carlton took a knock, as did did Lee Brincat, so eventually it was passive scrums and Beaufort tightened things up at forward to get back into the game. Still, this was a good match and it was something to build on. Ryan Sutton and Michael Kelly had excellent games and so did the whole front row. Man of the Match was Paul Haines."

Jim O'Brien, Team Manager Rumney Athletic : "It was disappointing that Bedwas had to field a weakened team due to injuries and first team commitments, because in the early part of the season they gave us a beating. It had to be passive scrums but we played some lovely rugby at times with Ian McIntyre and Ryan Sutton putting in very good performances and first team prop Gerald Cox making a welcome return. There was a very good buzz throughout the side and the game was well refereed by Peter Coles. The Man of the Match was Michael Kelly."

Jim O'Brien, Team Manager Rumney Athletic : "We played well in patches, sometimes good, sometimes dreadful. Beddau were far more committed and deserved to win, the Rumney players looked as if they needed to put in a lot more training. The Man of the Match was Lee Brincat."

Riverside Park, Rumney
Saturday 30th November 2002, K.O.2.30 pm

Jim O'Brien, Team Manager Rumney Athletic : "An excellent game, I believe that if we can get this commitment and train together each week we will have turned the corner. It was a smashing performance from the pack and the tackling was superb. Anthony Moore played a blinder and was voted Man of the Match. It was a really good game."

RISCA 2nd XV   V   RUMNEY ATHLETIC
Risca RFC
Saturday 16th November 2002, K.O. 2.00 pm

Risca 2nd XV 17   Rumney Athletic 19

Scorers for Rumney : H.Amafide 2 tries, J.Harris try, J.Balfrey 2 conversions

Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "Not a very convincing display and at times there was a lack of commitment up front. It was a shambles in places and Rumney can thank the brilliance of Henry Amafide's two tries for their victory. Man of the Match, Henry Amafide."

BEDWAS 2nd XV   V   RUMNEY ATHLETIC
Bedwas RFC, Caerphilly
Saturday 2nd November 2002, K.O. 2.30 pm

Bedwas 2nd XV 38   Rumney Athletic 0

Ian Riby, Rumney RFC : "The game was played in terrible conditions and upfront we were a match for Bedwas and it was good to see the front row of John Bartlett, John Stringer and Neil Ritchie coming together. They tended to pick up on our mistakes to score tries but we kept banging away. Ryan Sutton was everywhere, trying his heart out and with a very solid performance from the front five, it was only silly mistakes which let them in for the tries."

RUMNEY ATHLETIC   V   CAERAU
Riverside Park, Rumney
Saturday 12th October 2002, K.O. 2.30 pm

Rumney Athletic : 15.J.Colin 14.S.Rees 13.L.Macqueline 12.P.Foster 11.H.Amafide 10.J.Balfrey 9.S.Davies 1.N.Ritchie 2.M.Feneck (Capt.) 3.M.Gee 4.M.Harrington 5.M.Kelly 6.R.Sutton 7.G.Spencer 8.D.Clements

Rumney Athletic 8    Caerau 17

Scorers for Rumney : J.Colin try, M.Harris penalty

Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "After a sparkling display in midweek, Rumney were absolutely dreadful. Against Caerau's bigger pack there was no effort whatsoever and only a few players came out of the game with any credit, Neil Ritchie, Matthew Gee, Gareth Spencer and Ryan Sutton never gave up but behind the scrum we were a disaster. Speedster Henry Amafide did not receive a single pass all afternoon"

Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "A sparkling performance by the Rumney Development Squad and the Cardiff and District selectors must have learned a few lessons about their players tonight. Matthew Gee had a good game, Paul Niblett was excellent and for the short time he was on the field Simon Enoch showed his class. The youth players all performed well with outstanding contributions from Steven Page, Paul Bull, Andrew Feehan."

Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "An excellent performance by a young Rumney side which included a number of youth players. The front row performed very well and there was plenty of promise behind the scrum. Gareth Niblett, Andrew Byett and Gareth Spane had fine games and Henry Amadife's seventy five metre solo try was superb. Overall a very pleasing performance."

PONTYCLUN 2nd XV   V   RUMNEY ATHLETIC
Pontyclun RFC
Saturday 14th September 2002, K.O. 2.30 pm

Pontyclun 2nd XV 0    Rumney Athletic 84

Ian Riby, Rumney RFC : "A good match played in very warm weather. Wayne Feneck scored a try from the first kick off and set the tone for the whole game. Henry Amadife on the wing raced in for two tries and looks as if he certainly has the potential to become a first team player. Matthew Miller had a good game and faced the legendary JPR Williams, playing centre for Pontyclun."

Rumney Athletic 5    Glamorgan Wanderers 2nd XV 26

Scorer for Rumney : L.Brincat try

Jim O'Brien, Rumney RFC : "A fast and entertaining game in which Rumney unfortunately got what they deserved. By making so many mistakes they handed the game to The Wanderers. There were however a lot of positive things in the game and the Athletic XV could become a useful side. The Man of the Match was scrum half Kevin Mably and the game was very well refereed by Peter Coles."

Scorers for Rumney : N.Ritchie try, D.Clements try, M.Williams try, J.Balfrey 2 conversions

Paul Sutton, Rumney RFC : "We were outclassed, Llanharan were up for it and we weren't. Jason Wheeler was impressive at full back and although the Rumney forwards played well, the opposition was a class above us on the day."
