Although both sides find themselves entrenched at the lower end of Division One, this match at Mount Pleasant Park proved to be an entertaining encounter with ten tries and plenty of running rugby. Beddau opened the scoring with a Gavin Davey try in the first minutes of the game and Rumney immediately struck back with a fine forward drive leading to a try by hooker Dean Simons. Further tries for Beddau came from Gareth Jones and Steve Cole but Rumney's reply was a scintillating try from winger Chris Arnold who finished off a brilliant passing movement by cutting through the opposition defences to touch down under the posts. At the interval the score was Beddau 22 Rumney 12. The pattern of the game was similar in the second half with Rumney adding equally good tries by Grant Harrington and Mark Addis but further tries by Beddau ensured that the home side claimed the final points.
Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney
RFC 1st XV : "A very disappointing result, we played some good
rugby, but also some very inept rugby. The squad are working very
hard in training, they realise what is required of them and will
reap the benefits of this in the not too distant future. We will
overcome this set back and move on to our next game."
