Scorers for Rumney : C.Wills try, G.Welsh try, J.Palfrey penalty

Rumney again conceded early tries and ten minutes into the game Blackwood were already ahead by fourteen points through touchdowns by Daniel Dark and Dean Brown. Martin Jones converted both tries and added a penalty before Rumney outside half James Palfrey opened the visitors' account with a well struck long range penalty. Blackwood increased their lead with tries by Lewis Hamer and Matthew Peater. The visitors showed what they can be capable of with a well worked touchline movement which saw captain Christian Wills brush aside three tacklers to score a fine try. Another good, high speed handling movement resulted in a try for scrum half Glyn Welsh but Blackwood regrouped and launched attacks with further tries coming from Brown and Dark. Jones converted both tries to seal a comfortable win.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "We always knew we were going to have a battle when playing Blackwood and today was no exception. We started off very slowly and gifted them two tries from our own mistakes. We did attempt to play constructive rugby but because of their very dominant forward platform we struggled to gain quality ball for our backs to use. We must pull out the positives from this game and remove the silly mistakes. We will turn the corner. Man of the Match for Rumney - Glyn Welsh."

Dave Escott, Rugby Secretary Rumney RFC : "The worst standard of First Division rugby I have seen this year. Looking on the bright side, the beer and the weather was lovely. It was pleasing to see Wayne Feneck playing his first game for the First XV and he acquitted himself well. Our only salvation appears to be bringing players through from the Youth and hoping to pull things together in order to salvage the season."

Richie Brincat, Rumney RFC : "It was all very slow, Rumney had lots of weaknesses and no aggression. Wayne Feneck tried hard when he came on and James Harris contributed well to the scrum but Blackwood's front five were much stronger than Rumney's. If the front five are not dominating, then you're not going to win. Scrum half Glyn Welsh kept battering away and outside half James Palfrey did well for his first game but the pack was very disorganised."
