A stunning performance by the Rumney pack and the ability to also spread the ball wide when necessary, ensured that the home side dominated this match and gave them victory over a speedy and expansive Bonymaen side. Forward pressure and disciplined recycling led to second row Mark Harrington crashing over for Rumney's first try and their second was started deep in their own twenty two and saw a brilliant break by full back Mark Addis set powerful winger Ian McIntyre away for an excellent touchdown.

In an even first half Bonymaen centre Gwyn Rowlands' power play created two tries for winger Rhys Jones. The second half belongd almost entirely to Rumney, their pack, led by lock Paul Langley, was outstanding and grew stronger as the match progressed. The front row scrummaged well and with Langley frequently taking opposition ball in the lineout, a forward platform was established. Gavin Lucas and Matthew Wood were unstoppable in the back row and continually took play upfield, providing their half backs with quality possession. Sniping runs by scrum half Glyn Welsh and elusive breaks by outside half Chris Day caused uncertainties in the Bonymaen defence and when flying wing Chris Arnold sliced through from an unexpected angle he raced away to score an excellent individual try. Throughout the second half the tackling of the Rumney backs was exemplary and snuffed out any possibility of Bonymaen coming back.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "Another good performance from the squad, they played with confidence and fully deserved the win. The first half proved to be very evenly contested with both sides playing some very attractive rugby. We turned around at half time and prevented them from playing the expansive game they enjoy, we defended very well and punished each mistake they made. Our forwards gave us a great platform to work from, which allowed our very exciting three-quarter line to function. We now look forward to our game with Newbridge. Rumney Man of the Match was lock Paul Langley."

Chris Day, outside half Rumney RFC 1st XV : "The defence was very good largely as a result of the way the back row were playing, Gavin Lucas dominated their big No8 and Matthew Wood was everywhere. The front five were also very good, Paul Langley stole all their lineout ball. The structures we worked out with Mike Ruddock earlier in the week gave me room to play and I had lots of runners coming off me, Chris Arnold came in at a brilliant angle for his try."

Sian Clement, Team Manager Bonymaen 1st XV : "We adopted the wrong tactics throughout and kicked badly in the second half. It was Rumney who managed those important turnovers and they showed how to create and take chances."
