Rumney's defence held up well against a first half pummelling from Tondu in heavy rain at Riverside Park and the home team's fight back gave them a well deserved share of the league points. The whole Rumney pack played well with flanker Neil Coles performing brilliantly in defence. A breakout by half back Lee Byrne eventually led to Tondu taking the lead through a try from Darrel Thomas. James Balfrey pulled back three points with a penalty kick from the half way line and it was Balfrey who supplied an inch perfect kick to the corner, where winger Ian McIntyre collected and raced over for his excellent try. Paul Langley and Grant Harrington dominated the lieouts and supplied Rumney with good ball. Tondu's Mark Jones kicked a penalty which levelled the scores and the game ended as a draw.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney 1st XV : "A very evenly matched game, both sides attempted to play attractive rugby but as the weather conditions deteriorated so did the rugby. We had to defend for long periods in the first half of the game with our back row performing very well. Our pack started to get the better of the Tondu pack and it was then their turn to defend. Overall I felt neither side deserved to lose the game and the draw was a fair outcome. Rumney's Man of the Match was Neil Coles."
