Scorers for Rumney : S.Coles try, D.Willey try, M.Addis try, T.Price penalty

An injury time penalty by Treorchy full back Stuart Thomas gave the Zebras their first points of the season and stole victory from under Rumney's noses. This match was a tight affair with the advantage swinging from side to side throughout. Rumney made an explosive start with a well worked try scored by Stuart Coles only to quickly concede a simple try to visiting centre Gareth Morris. Thomas and Tommy Price successfully kicked a penalty each before home centre David Willey cut through the Treorchy defence to go over unopposed but once again the Rumney defences were found wanting and Treorchy lock Andrew Harris soon replied with an answering try. Rumney gave away another penalty and outside half Matthew Hutchings took the opportunity to put his side into the lead. What came next was the high point of the game, Rumney No8 Andrew Grabham broke from the base of a scrum in his own twenty two and raced upfield, he fed winger Mark Addis who made ground before passing back, Grabham then drew the last defender before setting Addis off again to complete a brilliant try and establish a two point lead with only minutes remaining. The sad fact was that Rumney were once again unable to defend their lead and spent the last minutes of the game trapped near their own line where they conceded the late, match-winning penalty.

Dave Escott, Rugby Secretary Rumney RFC : "The one that got away again. When you miss eight kicks at goal you don't deserve to win. We were unlucky to have a try disallowed when Mark Addis touched the corner flag after a brilliant run, but it shows that everything is so very tight in this division. We may be a very young side but we are singing from the same songsheet. We have difficult fixtures coming up against Bedwas and Bonymaen and we have to win a game."

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV :"A very disappointing result at home, we should have won the game quite comfortably but once again we let the opposition back into the game. We held a slender lead in the final stages but when we had the opportunity to kill off the last minutes of the game we made mistakes and gave Treorchy the opportunity to run back at us, which resulted in them winning the match. We must once again pull the positives out of the game and try to eradicate our mistakes. Man of the Match for Rumney, Glyn Welsh."
