Three tries in the second half allowed Tredegar to overcome a spirited Rumney team at Riverside Park. Morgan Llovell scored the visitors' first try by rounding off an incisive break by fly half Jeremy Lloyd. Two penalties by home outside half James Balfrey brought Rumney back into contention and following one disruptive adventure by the pack into the Tredegar twenty two, hooker Dean Simons gathered skillfully far out on the left wing and crossed for a try which gave the home side the lead going into the second half. As the game progressed the heavier Tredegar pack gained more control and flanker Joe Campbell crossed for a try in the fifty fourth minute. In what proved to be the turning point of the game, Rumney's outstanding and influential prop Gerald Cox suffered a particularly nasty head wound and had to leave the field. From the ensuing set piece, scrum half Shane Pinch succeeded in driving over to give Tredegar the lead and sealed the result shortly afterwards with a try by No8 Tony Edwards.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC 1st XV : "Another game from which we should have come away with a victory. We created a number of scoring opportunities but did not finish them off and this cost us the game. We turned around at half time with a slender lead but Tredegar then changed their game and started to play ten man rugby and it proved to be very effective. Outside half James Balfrey was voted Rumney's Man of the Match, he has worked very hard to regain his position in the First Team and there is no doubt that he fully deserved the award. "
