Most of the first half was played deep in Rumney territory and although the visitors put up a strong defence with tenacious tackling from scrum half Ben Morris, lock Anthony Jones, centre Paul Niblett and full back Gareth Niblett stopping certain tries, Beddau managed two touch downs through No8 Neil Lewis and winger Chris Jones and a conversion by outside half Garreg Jenkins. 12 - 0 down with half time approaching, Rumney started to show more penetration and No8 Carl Barker, wing Paddy O'Neill and second row Michael Kelly were all unlucky to be hauled down close to the try line. A clash of heads saw Gareth Niblett replaced at full back by Carl Ford shortly before the interval.

A much more controlled start to the second half saw Rumney pressing and driving into home territory and fifteen minutes into the half left wing Dan Clements scooped up a loose Beddau pass, set off for the line and fed outside half Danny Clark who outpaced the defence to score at the posts. Clark converted his own try but within three minutes Beddau had struck back with a rolling maul which ended in a try for prop Gareth Vowles, Jenkins' conversion restoring their lead to 19 - 7. It was only four minutes later that the visitors struck back themselves, lock Paul Bull securing good possession, allowing Clark to chip into open space where Ford gathered and supplied O'Neill with an inside scoring pass but Beddau again retaliated with Gavin Davey finishing off a good handling movement with a corner try. Eight minutes before full time Wayne Feneck took clean lineout ball for Rumney and Morris, Clark and O'Neill handled well before centre Stuart McIntyre split the defence and went the distance for the final try and a closing score of 24 - 17.

Jim O'Brien, Rugby Secretary Rumney RFC : "Rumney improved greatly in the second half and 'won' that half 17 - 12 but still lost the game ! At the end of the day we came out with a bit of credit, our heads never dropped."
