Rumney found themselves pinned in their own half for most of the early part of the game, only able to make the occasional breakout . Adopting their traditional running style, the Wanderers came close to scoring a number of times and after fifteen minutes took advantage of a penalty to set up a line out in the corner, from which their well controlled rolling maul resulted in the opening try. Rumney's attacking potential was clear when Ben Morris, Matthew Gee and Carl Barker linked up to take play close to the visitors' try line, but more penalties allowed the Wanderers to keep launching attacks back into their opponents' half. With half time approaching Rumney left wing Ian McIntyre collected a loose clearance and set off on a long range kick and rush, skilfully regathering the ball and scoring an excellent solo try under the posts. Captain Adam Harding's conversion gave the home side a 7 - 5 lead but from the restart the Wanderers gained immediate possession and centre Feelece Cozee raced in to touch down at the posts. Dan Jones converted but on the stroke of half time Rumney No8 Barker powered over from a penalty bringing the sides level at 12 - 12.

Soon after the restart, confusion in the Rumney defences allowed Mike Grimes to grab another try for Glamorgan Wanderers and further errors by the home side presented their visitors with more attacking opportunities. In the sixtieth minute Rumney prop and Man of the Match David Bartlett broke off a maul to score a good try and put his side in front for the first time, but reckless use of the boot allowed Jones to return the lead to the Wanderers and four minutes later, following an offside offence, Jones kicked the ponts and sealed the visitors' victory.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney 1st XV : "As the score would suggest the game was a very close encounter. The start of the game saw us having to defend for long periods and conceding a try. The squad kept chipping away at the Wanderers and due to this pressure we scored a break away try.The score at half time was 12-12 and it was anyone's game.
After the break the opposition scored wide out and missed the conversion, after more pressure from the Rumney side a try from prop David Bartlett, which was converted, gave us a narrow lead. As we entered the closing stages we infringed and gave away two penalties which sealed the game for the opposition. Rumney's Man of the Match was David Bartlett."

Jim O'Brien, Rugby Secretary Rumney RFC : "If the Wanderers had taken all their chances in the first half they would have been out of sight. We did much better in the second half but the Wanderers just about deserved to edge it."
