Rumney started the new year in particularly lively fashion with driving forward play and sweeping threequarter movements. Left wing Ian McIntyre made excellent opening breaks and full back Paddy O'Neill was unlucky to be stopped short of the UWIC line. After ten minutes McIntyre initiated a movement which saw scrum half Ben Morris deceive the opposition with two brilliant dummies and release the backs. Right wing Henry Amadife finished off the movement with a devestating side step which put him in for the opening try. Within five minutes outside half Adam Harding had added a penalty to give Rumney an 8 - 0 lead but thirty minutes into the half UWIC struck back with a well worked try for full back Darren Berry . The College were now taking more control of the game and the home side were conceding penalties, allowing UWIC outside half Gareth Morgan to bring the scores level shortly before half time.

More penalties were conceded by Rumney in the opening part of the second half and despite impressive runs from prop Matthew Gee and flanker Neil Coles, UWIC kept play mostly in the opposition half of the field. When they did get into the UWIC twenty two the Rumney forwards always looked dangerous and one forward drive demolished a UWIC scrum allowing No8 Carl Barker to pick up and supply Harding with a try-scoring pass. In the sixty seventh minute UWIC fly half Morgan collected a loose clearance kick and started a counterattack which resulted in hooker Damien Campbell scoring the converted try that put his side into a 13 - 15 lead. Rumney went further behind when Morgan kicked another penalty but in the closing minutes Henry Amadife started a stunning movement which saw the ball pass through the hands of all his threequarters before Ian Mcintyre scored the corner try which tied the game.

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney 1st XV : "A free flowing game with both sides playing some attractive rugby. Not having played a competitive game for five weeks did have an impact on the Rumney side but we overcame this and competed very well, scoring three very good tries. Both teams had the opportunity to win this game but on reflection a draw was a fair result. Rumney's Man of the Match was flanker Neil Coles. We now move on to our trip down west against Llangennech."

Jim O'Brien, Rugby Secretary Rumney RFC : "We started well and looked as if we could win the game but UWIC came back and then looked the better side for long periods. Near the end the students went into a 13 - 18 lead but Rumney scored a superb try which was started by Henry Amadife and finished off by Ian McIntyre to draw the match. Referee Peter Soroka had a tidy game."
