Rumney's interest in the 2005 - 2006 Konica Minolta Cup ended in Laugharne when the home side ran in twenty points before half time and the visitors failed to take their chances to score. Rumney flanker Ryan Sutton dominated the lineouts, repeatedly taking opposition ball, and prop Paul Douglas had another outstanding game in attack and defence, both players preventing early Laugharne tries, but the home pack still spent most of the opening period camped in the Rumney half with second rows Palmer and Brown controlling much of the play. Occasional effective attacks by the backs gave Rumney chances to score with centre Matthew Miller and wing Rhys Hallett making telling breaks but after twenty minutes Palmer and Brown linked well and centre Roger Thomas raced away for the home side's first try, fly half Scott Penny converting for a 7 - 0 lead. Hallett produced another excellent jinking run but for most of the time Rumney were on the retreat with Laugharne running back loose kicks, exerting forward pressure and eventually scoring their second try from the back of a lineout. After thirty minutes poor tackling allowed Laugharne to gain their third try and a long range penalty by Penny resulted in the interval scoreline reading 20 - 0.

The second half proved to be a much different affair with Rumney determined to attack, scrum half Rob Lawson finding the gaps, Douglas powering over large distances and Sutton cutting through on the burst, and it was Sutton's consistent control of the lineout which sparked all four of the subsequent Rumney tries. The expected clean possession by the flanker allowed Lawson to set his backs away and when hooker Alan Fowler was hacked down off the ball, a penalty try was awarded, outside half Danny Clark's conversion bringing his side back into the game at 20 - 7. Two good tries for Laugharne by winger Endaf Howells and full back Jonathan Owen restored the gap between the teams before more Sutton possession led to a fine threequarter movement involving slick handling by centre Paul Niblett, wing Dan Clements, and full back Michael O'Neill who gave Hallett the ball on the twenty two, and still with a lot to do, the elusive winger jinked through defenders for an excellent try. Hallett was soon in action again when he conjured up a devestating midfield break, and with flanker Barry Phillips ripping out good possession, the opportunity arose for Douglas to gather well and cover the reamining twenty metres at top speed for a brilliant try. Twenty minutes remained on the clock and Rumney had pulled back to 32 - 17 and with the whole side fully committed to attack, centre Matthew Miller ripped the ball from the opposition to start the outstanding movement of the game with interpassing by Lawson, Douglas, Miller, Sutton and O'Neill leading to Man of the Match Hallett scorching over for his second try. Having started the game going backwards, the Rumney pack once again ended a match dominating the opposition and pushing them in reverse, but the missed chances of the first half proved costly and the visitors bowed out of the cup, unable to put any additional scores on the board.

Paul Douglas, prop Rumney 1st XV : "It was disappointing to travel all the way to Laugharne and then put in a below par performance, but this is a very young side which at times can be very good. We gave away too many turnovers and missed tackles in the first half and also suffered from a disorganised defence, but the boys showed good character in the second half and Rhys Hallett had a brilliant game."
