Nantymoel found themselves defending from the start and their defiance kept the home side at bay until the tenth minute when outside half Danny Clark slotted a penalty. The visitors came back strongly with neat forward play but were driven back whenever they threatened the Rumney line by strong forward resistance and fine line kicking from Clark. Rumney showed early attacking flair with prop Colin O'Donoghue, second row Emyr James and No8 Stuart Coles charging forward and forcing another penalty which Clark put over in the twenty eighth minute for a 6 - 0 lead. Play soon returned to the visitors' half where hooker Michael Feneck, second row Michael Kelly and flanker Ryan Fenton all broke through repeatedly and centre Anthony Jones proved a difficult man to hold in midfield. The dominance of the Rumney pack led to Nantymoel giving away a series of close range penalties and in the thirty fourth minute Mr Brickell decided that a penalty try was justified. Clark converted and five minutes later flanker Ryan Sutton made an outstanding steal in the line to feed speedy scrum half Chris Miller, who set up a devestating break out of defence where centres Bowen and Jones and full back Phil Carlton released winger Lee Abdul, Bowen finishing off the movement with a corner try and resulting in an interval lead of 20 - 0.
Rumney resumed with open play after the break and good running from Carlton and wing Michael O'Neill, and when Nantymoel infringed Clark added two more penalties. The wet ball led to many handling errors but Miller and Clark controlled play skilfully and despite a period of Nantymoel pressure which almost resulted in a try, Rumney flanker Matthew Way chased an upfield kick and established an attacking position in the visitors' twenty two. Sutton made another excellent take in the line and Feneck and Fenton drove forward before Leadbeatter, in the scrum half role, cleared out and put James through the defence for his side's third try. Clark had succeeded with every kick throughout the afternoon and the conversion was no exception, the extra ponts bringing a final score of 33 - 0.
Stuart Coles, Captain Rumney 1st XV : "It was a difficult build up because of the uncertainty as to whether the game would take place following the heavy rain but we got the go ahead at one thirty and were slow to warm up. We gradually got into it and by half time the game was virtually over, but we should have gone on to score more points and mistakes crept in. It was a workman like performance and sometimes when it is wet and windy you have just got to win games if you are to stay at the top of the table. We know we can play better but we were happy enough with the win. Colin O'Donoghue, playing at prop, was excellent and along with the the rest of the front row, destroyed the Nantymoel scrum. We played well up front and Danny Clark controlled it from behind and put us into the right positions."
John Leadbeatter, prop Rumney 1st XV : "It was mostly a forward game due to the conditions, but the boys did well in the first half and built up a good score. Any win is good but our discipline could do with improvement. We controlled it in the pack and Colin O'Donoghue and Emyr James had stormers."
