Simon Greedy crossed for three tries as Rumney defeated Aberavon at The Talbot Athletic Ground, Port Talbot. Simon's first try came in the eighth minute, after which time the home forwards stepped up the pace and forced two penalties which Matthew McCarthy kicked. Rumney hit back with a try by Christian Wills which followed an Aberavon mixup on their own line - in the confusion Christian neatly picked up the ball and placed it over the try line. For Aberavon Barry Maddocks ran forty metres and touched down for a try and this was quickly followed by another scored by home flanker Damien Neil. Rumney replied with a Simon Davies penalty bringing the half time score to Aberavon 20 Rumney 13. After the interval Simon Greedy scored his second and third tries in quick succession to put Rumney back in front at 20 - 25. Aberavon came back with a corner try by wing Gareth Davies before Simon Enoch touched down for Rumney following a dazzling break by Phil Ford. Simon Davies' second penalty was followed by a try for prop Paul Douglas to take Rumney into a 27 - 40 lead. The Wizards finished strongly with a try by Dafydd Owen and a period of sustained pressure but the Rumney defence held and the final whistle gave the visitors a hard earned victory with six tries to the home side's four.

Steve Ford, Coach Rumney RFC : "This result proves that Rumney are slowly improving but there is still a lot of work to do. The attitude was right in this game - Aberavon had a big pack, we wore them down and fitness showed in the end. Abertillery on Saturday will be another big test, I hope we are up to it".
