This was Rumney's second league defeat in four days by a Gwent
club and although they have games in hand, must now find a return
to winning ways. The basis of Blackwood's victory was a solid
performance from the pack and they outscored the visitors by seven
tries to two. Blackwood's first try came within two minutes of
the start when a rolling maul took Matthew Veater over the line
- by half time the home side was leading 25 - 3. In the second
half Rumney scored two good corner tries, the first, by Gareth
Downes followed an excellent blindside break by Ben Atkins and
Simon Greedy and the second saw Robert Walsh finish off an equally
good three quarter movement but with time running out, loose passes
allowed both Darren Starr and Matthew Penny to race away for interception
tries for Blackwood and hand Rumney a heavy defeat.
