Scorers for Rumney : Jason Fofana try, Simon Davies 1 drop goal, 1 conversion, 3 penalties
It was Newbridge who put on the early pressure but it was Rumney who went in front in the eighth minute with a Simon Davies penalty. Newbridge hit back with a try in the corner from prop Greg James following good possession from a line out and fly-half Jason Williams converted. Minutes later an excellent Simon Davies drop goal cut the Newbridge lead to one point. Early in the second half a high tackle by Newbridge centre John Bowd on his Rumney opposite number Simon Enoch, gave Davies the chance to successfully kick the penalty and put Rumney into the lead. Rumney second row Michael Peard had dominated the linesout all afternoon and his amazing take in one lineout lead to Jason Fofana getting quick ball in the centre forty metres out - the flying Fofana shot between the Newbridge centres, sidestepped the full back and crashed over under the posts to finish off the game's one brilliant move and take Rumney's lead to 7 - 16. In the 69th minute Simon Davies slotted his third penalty of the match but with nine minutes remaining Newbridge flanker Dean Gibbs scored a close-quarters try and Jason Williams converted. With time running out the home side ran the ball whenever they had possession but were unable to penetrate the visitors' defence and Rumney ran out winners of a close and exciting game.
