Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC :
"Although the score line suggests a heavy defeat it must
be put in perspective. Three periods were played during the game
- two thirty minute periods and a forty minute period to finish.
In the first period we tried out a combination of new players
with some established players and that period finished at twelve
points to nil. In the next period we put together a team made
up predominantly of last season's second team players - as is
our policy this year, every player
will have an opportunity. During this period Birmingham and Solihull
ran in a number of tries and pushed the score up by some twenty
nine points. In the last period it was intended that we should
field our stronger side; this period was very intense and Rumney
were unfortunate to have two pushover tries disallowed - the eventual
score was one try to nil. It must be said that the exercise was
very worthwhile and I am sure that many of the players realise
how much work they have to put in to be able to play at this level
of rugby. Birmingham and Solihull were a good side and I hope
that we keep our links with them so that they can visit us this
time next year at Riverside Park".

Shaun Lee, Coach Rumney RFC : "I thought the trial yesterday was a very useful exercise. We used thirty players during the three thirty minute periods and had the opportunity to look at players in a game situation. As is normal in this type of exercise, the game can be disjointed - this is due to players learning to play along side each other for the first time. We have a very different side from last year and overall I was very pleased with the way we played but there is plenty of room for improvement and I was able to identify areas that we need to work upon. Bedwas are a good side who, in fairness, looked very organized. We travel to Solihull next week for another trial game and I am sure we can build on today's performance".
