Scorers for Rumney : Lee Abdul try, Simon Davies 6 penalties

Blackwood fly-half Chris Lay kicked two difficult penalties to give the visitors a flying start at the University ground. Simon Davies hit back with two penalties for Rumney but then Blackwood regained the lead with the first try of the game when flanker Martin Ackerman crossed from a lineout, brushing aside four tacklers on his way to the line. Lay converted. Rumney hit back with a try by winger Lee Abdul as he rounded off a brilliant move which had been started by No.8 Ben Atkins and prop Paul Douglas with a quick throw-in near the half way line. Having started the movement, Atkins and Douglas both made powerful breaks before the backs were set loose for Abdul to cross wide out.

Blackwood led by two points at the interval and increased their lead shortly afterwards with a try under the posts by Chris Lay. Simon Davies replied with four penalties for Rumney but the visitors claimed their victory in the dying minutes of the game when Ackerman bulldozed his way through the Rumney defence to score his second try.
