Scorers for Cross Keys : D.Davies try, I.Bebb try and 1 penalty,
J.Webb drop goal
Top of the table Cross Keys continued their promotion push with this hard fought victory over Rumney at Riverside Park. Countless Rumney attacks were forced back by a watertight defence and limited the home side to two Simon Davies penalties. The Keys opened the scoring in the twelfth minute with a Ioan Bebb penalty which he soon followed up with a try in the corner following a outstanding break down the wing by Tom Walsh. Rumney launched repeated attacks on the Keys line but went further behind when Keys broke away into the Rumney half and Jamie Webb landed an accurate drop goal. The visitors sealed victory when flanker Darren Davies drove off the side of a maul and scored a try at the corner flag.
Dave Escott, Rugby Secretary Rumney RFC : "It was a game that either side could have won but Cross Keys defence was outstanding. Rumney played well but players' minds must have been partly on next week's game against Cardiff. Rumney had opportunities to even the score but Cross Keys did deserve to win. We did try to play a flowing game throughout and that's the way we'll play against Cardiff next week. Cardiff are recognised as the Greatest Rugby Club in The World and probably have one of the best sides in the world too. Rumney RFC wishes Cardiff every success in the European Cup and we are looking forward to next week's game with them".
