Rumney returned to form following a disappointing weekend performance against Merthyr and accounted for visitors Llanharan in an exciting and skillful encounter at Riverside Park. A pulsating start saw the home side go 12 points up in the opening four minutes and lay the foundations for the victory. An elusive run by full back Christian Wills was supported by captain Michael Peard who collected the ball to score under the posts and this was followed two minutes later by brilliant threequarter movements which led to a try by outstanding young second row Grant Harrington. Llanharan replied with a try by No.8 Christian Thomas who powered over from the base of a scrum but there was a hat trick of tries to come from Rumney winger Lee Abdul, the best of which came from a clever chip over the head of full back Wayne Jervis. Jason Fofana put his name on the scoresheet with a blistering break which tore apart the opposition defence but Llanharan never gave up the chase and Jervis and wing Scott Bowen both collected tries with No.8 Colin Malone also touching down deep into injury time. One of their best performances of the season saw Rumney move back up into the top half of the Division 1 table.
Jim Wills Jr., Rumney RFC : "The conditions were ideal for running rugby and the Rumney backs were far superior to Llanharan's but we went to sleep in the second half and struggled a bit. The young boys in the pack played very well. The handling of the Rumney backs was on a different level tonight - Nick Stork at outside half put in a solid performance and got the game moving".
Jim Wills Sr., Rumney RFC : "We saw a lot more from the backs today, more than we've seen in a long time. It's the best set of backs in Division 1 and we haven't fully utilised them but they did have more of the ball tonight - the Rumney outside half, Nick Stork, played very well".
