Scorers for Rumney : M.Peard try, L. Abdul try, S.Davies try and penalty and 2 conversions

Merthyr came away with another win at Riverside Park against Rumney and their biggest ever margin of victory. At half time Rumney trailed 8 - 15 with their points coming from a Michael Peard try and a Simon Davies penalty. Merthyr's points came from a Paul Jones try and another by flanker Hugh Morse. Stuart Davies converted and kicked a penalty. The Ironmen extended their lead with a try by left wing Neil Morgan before the home side hit back with a try by Simon Davies which he also converted. The outstanding movement of the half came from a line out and saw Nick Stork the Rumney centre give a neat reverse pass to flying winger Lee Abdul who crossed for the best try of the day but then Stuart Davies, the Merthyr outside half. dropped a goal and his side raced away with the game through two further Davies penalties and a try by right wing Chris Perry which Davies also converted.

Steve Ford, Rumney RFC : "Basically it came down to attitude - we had it right against Treorchy and after that we seemed to take things for granted. Full credit to Merthyr, they got the better of us up front and that left us with little to work on behind the scrum. We didn't deserve to win".

Glyn Welsh, Rumney RFC : "We were flat, there was nothing happening and the boys weren't communicating. We started off well but then it all went down hill"

Ian Riby, Rumney RFC : "It was terrible. Merthyr wanted the game more than we did. We thought we were going to win, there was no fire, no urgency".
