Rumney hit form and rock Pooler

It was an exciting and close encounter at Riverside Park today where Rumney beat Pontypool 17 - 14. Rumney scored an excellent fourth minute try when centres Nick Stork and Simon Enoch linked superbly to send Enoch over near the posts. Simon Davies converted. Stuart Lawrence scored Pontypool's try in the 28th minute and converted it. Lawrence followed this with successful penalties in the 42nd and 63rd minutes. Simon Davies replied with a penalty for Rumney in the 70th minute but this was immediately followed by another Stuart Lawrence penalty for Pontypool in the 71st minute. The decisive score came in the 79th minute from a brilliant threequarter break by centre Max Ryce who passed on to Jason Fofana who then linked with Phil Ford to create Rumney's second try. Simon Davies converted.

Steve Ford, Coach Rumney RFC : "We wanted a basic improvement on last week. There's still a lot to do but we needed the win and it lifted the boys. It's still early days, we're not there yet. Man of the Match - Darren Sage".

Stuart Carlson, Rumney RFC : "We started off well with a superb move through the centre but then we picked up a couple of injuries. It was Even Steven in the first half 'though Rumney took more opportunities to play open rugby than Pontypool did. Pooler changed tactics to keep things tight and got two penalties while Rumney wasted two tapped free kicks, but we finally got them on the back foot in the last ten minutes and a flowing movement put Phil Ford in under the posts !".
