An exciting and entertaining encounter at Riverside Park. A scrum against the head under the Rumney posts led to Tondu's first try, scored by Jason Lowndes. Tondu gained much loose posession and scored two more first half tries, one from John Towell and one from Alun Brown. Early in the second half centre Richard Dyke added another try for Tondu and shortly afterwards Dyke set up a try for scrum half Brendan Roach. Rumney staged a revival with Simon Greedy scoring a well constructed try from a line out. This was followed quickly by two impressive tries for Rumney by dynamic full back Christian Wills. Dave Escott, Rugby Secretary, Rumney RFC : "The difference between Tondu and Rumney was that Tondu's defence was outstanding and Rumney's defence was appalling. We pressed their line but they didn't let Rumney score a try and then they attacked and scored twice - it was all over then".
