This
game was played in bitterly cold conditions at the Treorchy Oval
with the only score of the first half coming from the home side
through a Matthew Silva penalty. Early in the second half Sam
Greenaway scored the first of his two tries for the Zebras. Silva
converted the try and followed it with a penalty to give Treorchy
a 13 - 0 lead. Rumney replied with a Glenn George try under the
posts which Simon Davies converted. Almost immediately Greenaway
scored his second try before Simon Enoch hit back for Rumney with
a try and Simon Davies converted to bring the visitors within
four points of the home side just as referee Neil Ballard blew
for full time.
Scorers for Rumney : Glenn George try, Simon Enoch try, Simon Davies 2 conversions.
Dave Escott, Rugby Secretary, Rumney RFC : "The general standard was appalling for First Division rugby. The game will be remembered more for the chances that were missed rather than those that were actually taken. The forwards played well, we had the better pack, but ill discipline and wrong options cost us the game".
